Jack A Brown asked:

The learning technique provided in ‘Certified Nursing Assistant Training Class’ is widely divergent from the core curriculum in ‘Training Course’. Generally the ‘Training Class’ consists of know-how and practice of archetypal practical and applied skills, while the ‘Training Course’ involves the theoretical part which is on paper or available online.

There are a handful of Hospitals and Nursing Homes, who can give the leverage of free Certified Nursing Assistant Training as a substitute of your working for them, but it may depend on your locale. To check the likelihood for the same in your city, take up a telephone directory and confirm it by calling them. Possibilities also lay with certain long term care centers, so explore them too in your locality. Some hospitals also offer free CNA courses to the students of Community Colleges due to their tie-ups with them.

Fortunately there are a few CNA and HHA Scholarship courses that grant free sponsorship to worthy aspirants who are quite resolute to opt for the career of a Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide in long term basis.

Majority of Free CNA Training Courses enfold the whole disbursement of training including the expense of State Exam fee. These training programs are generally administered and funded by The States Dept. of Public Health.

Armed Forces also offer a series of CNA Training programs. Few of the health care facilities have recently got permission to provide CNA training in collaboration with Spectrum Medical Services attributable to the Air Force Aid Society Spouse Employment Program. Under this free training program Air Force Aid Society will give financial aid to 10 spouses of active-duty military officials to become a CNA.

Beyond this Free Certified Nursing Assistant Training, if you are already working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for some time with an employer who has already sponsored your CNA training, then there are enormous probabilities that you can be asked to go back to a training program again to get your RN certification.

certified nurse assistant

Melanie Ullman asked:

Taking the CNA test is one of the final steps before beginning your new career as a certified nursing assistant. The CNA test is given in two parts, and a written part. To take the exam, you will need to have a volunteer or “model” with you. This is someone that you will use to demonstrate the clinical skills on to the instructor. As far as the written test is concerned, much of it is a combination of the information you learned in your seat and a training mixed with common sense.

Most people preparing for their test become nervous, since this is where all the training comes to its fruition. Even though you’ll be anxious, the reality is that most people find that written exam to be a breeze. Of course it helps to prepare prior to taking the exam by going over your notes and what ever other material. You were given during your classes.

Some general test taking tips might help you. On multiple choice questions, if you aren’t sure of the right answer, try subtracting the answers you know are not correct. That may leave you with an easier clearer choice. Also, trust your instincts. More often then not, your first answer will be the right answer.

The clinical portion will include many of the skills you learned and practiced in your training. You will probably be asked to demonstrate basic nurse assistant skills such as taking vital signs. Remember to take your time. Spending a few moments calming your self can help a great deal. When you’re trying to get an accurate measure of blood pressure and pulse wall being monitored by the test proctor.

You may also have to demonstrate other clinical skills such as the proper ways to move a patient, demonstrating proper hygiene such as hand washing, and possibly even changing and making a bed.

Another way you can prepare and boost your chances for success on that test, is to spend some time looking through some of the CNA resources to be found online. Taking the exam online is also smart because you can work around the hours that you want to work around.

Being involved in an online study group can help you tremendously when you sit down to take the actual exam. Look for forums with others who are either practicing Certified Nursing Assistants, have recently taken the exam, or are studying for it like you are.

The CNA test shouldn’t be intimidating or frightening. After all, the worst that can happen is you don’t pass. You can still sign up to take it again. And remember what it’s all for. All the classes and studying have given you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become a professional Nurse Assistant, and open the doors to life-long job security, good wages, an exciting work environment, and the satisfaction of helping others and knowing that your chosen career makes a real, and significant difference to the patients you are charged with caring for!

cna jobs

Melanie Ullman asked:

There are a variety of ways to obtain training to become a certified nursing assistant. There are ways that you can obtain nursing assistant training free of cost. A number of long term care facilities, nursing homes and even some hospitals offer interested people the option of free CNA training. There are usually some stipulations that come with accepting free training from an organization or business. If you are looking for an opportunity to change your career and move into the medical field seeking free training may be a good choice for you.

Many of the organizations and businesses that offer free CNA classes are nursing homes or long term care facilities. There are some hospitals that may offer this type of training but it is rare. A person that is interested in becoming a certified nursing assistant through a free program would have to contact the nursing homes and long term care facilities in the area to find out which ones offer this type of program. Not all facilities offer free CNA training so you have to do a little research in order to locate the places that do. You may be able to contact the State Board of Nursing to get a list of approved CNA training programs. This will help you narrow down the list of places to contact regarding free nursing assistant training.

The nursing homes and long term care facilities that offer free training do with the intention of creating a strong, well trained employees. If you accept the chance to complete a free nursing assistant program then you must realize that the company that provides the training will expect you to accept employment at their facility after certification. They will require that you stay employed at their facility for a specific amount of time. In some cases you may have to sign a contract agreeing to remain employed for a certain length of time.

The free nursing assistant training provided will include both written and practical sections just as any other program. In order for most nursing programs to be state approved they must offer a minimum number of learning hours for both the classroom and the clinical portions of the program. Programs offered through a long term care facility or a nursing home are no different. Participants in the free program will have to participate in classroom learning to gain knowledge of the nursing assistant profession. Likewise, the clinical portion of the program may be performed within the nursing home or long term care facility amongst patients. This is a great way to obtain the needed skills to become a certified nursing assistant.

After completing the program some facilities will allow you to work in their organizations while you are waiting to take the test to become a certified nursing assistant. Some facilities will even pay for you to take the certification test. Upon successfully passing the certification test you will work at the facility that provided the free training. You will be able to work a variety of shifts which will include 8 or 12 hours shifts that will more than likely include weekends. You have the choice of working mornings, evenings or overnight shifts. Committing to work in a nursing home in exchange for nursing assistant training can prove to be very profitable for your future.

cna training

Louis Zhang asked:

In order to get into the nursing field you are going to have to take classes or go to college in order to work in the nursing field. This applies to all levels of nursing from CNAs to RNs and to everything in between. Many people interested in the nursing field get their start as a CNA. This is because it does not take a long time to become a CNA, it is inexpensive and it is a great way to determine how far in the medical field you want to go. If you do not have the availability to attend traditional courses, then you might want to investigate taking CNA online classes.

Certified nursing assistant classes were once only available at local community colleges, nursing schools and other college campuses. However, with the Internet, it is now possible for you to take certified nursing assistant classes online so that you can work around your own schedule versus the schedule of the school that you are attending. Just for the record, this does not mean the course is going to be any easier and you will be required to take an in person CNA written test as well as the practical exam, there are no online substitutions for this.

CNA online classes will prepare you for your actual CNA exam. The reason that you cannot become CNA certified online is that the state mandates that your be monitored when testing by an actual moderator. You need to show that you have the necessary understanding to help patients and an at home exam leaves room for doubt as to whether you were able to pass the exam without using your books from class.

You do not need a degree to become a certified nursing assistant, however you do need to have the required training and subsequent certification. CNA online classes can help you to achieve your goals and put in a position to start a new career in the medical field. Nurses of all levels are in high demand and this demand will continue to grow as people live longer lives and more people populate the planet. Take advantage of a growing industry and find out about becoming a CNA today.

cna training

Brenne Meirowitz asked:

All students who complete an accelerated nursing program online or traditional on-campus courses, must register with the state as soon as you pass your state board exam. All level Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) must be registered in the state nursing board databases, as well as the Federal database – HIPDB (Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank). This information is compiled and administered by the NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing), a non-profit organization, which operates as a collective national nursing board comprised of 60 Member Boards. Board members include one in all fifty states, Washington, D.C., and all U.S. territories. Founded in 1978, organizers recognized the need to regulate nurses apart from organizations representing professional nurses.

One of the responsibilities of the NCSBN is to inform and enforce a set of nursing standards, and keeping the Nursing Assistive Personnel Registry up-to-date. Licensees in this database include Certified Nursing Assistant I (CNA), Certified Nursing Assistant II (CNA-II), and Medication Assistant-Certified (MA-C). Therefore, whether you completed an accelerated nursing program online, took courses at your local high school, or went to a campus university program, all licensees are subject to state and federal registration. The NCSBN operates as a national watchdog, coordinating issues of discipline, education, and certification. Information, such as disciplinary action taken against a nurse by a state board is shared with the NCSBN, which compiles this information, providing background resources for discipline issues and actions taken.

Once a complaint is filed against a nurse, he or she may become subject to investigation, which may lead to an informal conference and when necessary a formal hearing. Actions addressing the issue of complaint might include simply the re-educating the nurse or restricting their practice – each one carrying certain probationary conditions. When necessary, a nurse can have their license revoked. All disciplinary actions become public record. Additionally, any nurse holding a criminal conviction substantially related to the functions of their work is obligated to report this to the board. The board will then determine if the offender’s license warrants revocation. In most cases, applicants convicted of a criminal offense are not eligible for certification. The NCSBN requires that all 60 Member Boards update their listings of licensees in the registry on a biennial basis.

In addition to the NCSBN’s database of nurse licensees, Federal regulations are also in place to help combat fraud and abuse both in the health insurance industry and the health care delivery system. In 1996, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which led to the creation of the HIPDB (Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank) – a Federal tracking system providing information, such as employment history, affiliation, certification, or licensure decisions was put into law. The NCSBN now uses the Nursys database, which keeps track of all nurse disciplinary actions.

According to the NCSBN’s 8.4 Standards for Assistive Personnel, Certified Nursing Assistants I are bound by law to conform to the following standards:

David Patullo asked:

Many have started to realize that without a professional qualification, it is very difficult for one to be able to progress in the job market. Jobs have become so competitive that one can no longer advance in a field on experience alone. There are a number of professions that require an individual to under go specific programs for a reason. This is the same case with a certified nursing assistant program.

A person that would take part in a certified nursing assistant program would obviously be looking to progress in the medical field. As many of you may already be aware, the medical field is quite dangerous as one’s decision could be the difference between life and death for a particular individual. For this reason, it is important that those working in such an environment are professionally trained and certified to do their job. The last thing you would want is going to a hospital to find out you are being prescribed medication by someone that has never picked up a medical book in their life.

Now your next question may be in relation to where to find a certified nursing assistant program. To be quite honest, there are a number of places that are currently offering such programs to anyone that is looking to progress in the medical field. A recent survey showed that there is a large shortage of medical staff across the globe. What this means is that those that are planning to graduate with a medical degree will have a guaranteed job for themselves in the future. Where you do your course from however is of great importance that many people don’t tend to see.

When looking for a certified nursing assistant program course, it is important to make sure that the actual course is certified. If you end up doing a course that is not certified by a professional or government body, you would have been better of not doing the course at all. Having an uncertified qualification will not get you a job anywhere as it would not be recognized. For this reason, when looking for nursing programs, it is important to make sure that they are legally certified.

Majority of the places that would be offering certified nursing assistant programs¸ will usually have a section stating who they are authorized by. Try looking to see if the program that they are offering has any collaboration or affiliation with a medical approved body in your country. It is always good to check your references to ensure you are doing a qualification that will benefit you in the future.

There are many universities and colleges that are currently offering certified nursing assistant programs, however you would be better off looking for such a course online. Online courses are known to be much cheaper and cost effective in comparison to those that are being offered by a university or college. They most important thing that you have to remember when looking for such a course is to do an adequate amount of research.

cna jobs

Melanie Ullman asked:

In order to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, you must complete a nurses aide training course, then pass the CNA certification test given by the State Board of Nursing. The test consists of two parts, a written exam and a hands-on or ‘practical’ CNA skills test. Licensing is done by the state, so you will want to register for testing in the state you expect to work in.

In most cases, you will be testing with a group. The written exam is usually given before the skills test, and everyone will take the test at the same time. You will have to answer approximately 100 multiple-choice questions, and are usually given up to two hours to complete them. The written test covers patient care and protocols, patient monitoring and record-keeping, laboratory and testing procedures.

Everything on the written portion will have been covered in your CNA classes. It is a good idea to review your class materials, handouts, and charts before the certification test, particularly if you won’t be taking it right after completing the course. You can find some sample testing questions for the CNA exam online.

Following the written portion, the instructor takes the finished tests, and then individuals will be called on to perform their skills test one at a time. You may be asked to bring a “model” or helper with you to facilitate the skills testing. This person would act as your patient for you to demonstrate your skills on. The particulars of the skills test will vary, and may not be the same from person to person. You won’t know which skills you will be asked to perform until the actual testing.

You can expect the practical exam to cover the most common skills you will encounter. This might include performing measurements of vital signs – blood pressure, pulse, and respiration; demonstrating the proper way make a bed, both with and without a patient in it; ambulating or moving your patient – helping them dress, moving them in to and out of a wheel chair, etc.; and responding to emergencies such as choking.

You won’t know the outcome of your test right then and there; results will be mailed to you. However if you’ve been attentive in class and understand what you’ve been taught, and taken the time to study and review your materials prior to taking the test, you should have no problem passing. Once you have earned your certification, you are then free to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, Nurse’s Aide, or other similar position at any hospital, nursing home, or other facility in your state.

cna training

Melanie Ullman asked:

The CNA exam is intended to test the fundamental concepts and skill sets of a Nurse Assistant. This exam comprises of two different parts – written and practical.

The first written part of the CNA exam is relatively simple, and focuses on the overall basic medical concepts and procedures that would have been learned during the CNA training course. Enrollment into a good nursing assistant course, such as the Red Cross CNA class helps insure that you will pass the CNA exam. A nursing assistant course can last anywhere from a few weeks to 3 months including classroom training sessions, followed by a few practical training sessions, where the trainee learns clinical application and how to apply the skills thhe have been taught during the classroom session. The clinical training is carried out under the supervision of registered nursing staff and it usually involves working directly with real patients.

Most people who have passed the skills test will tell you that the written part of the exam is quite simple and easy to pass provided you have carefully studied the nursing manuals and books provided during the nursing assistant course.

Clinical Part Of The CNA Exam

The second clinical part of the exam is somewhat more challenging, and tests the clinical skill sets of the individual. Usually, the examinee is supposed to bring an escort with them, who will need to act as the model, for the practical examination. The examinee will need to demonstrate his clinical skill sets using the escort as the model. The examiner may ask the examinee to demonstrate any number of clinical skills that he may have learnt during the clinical training sessions of his nursing assistant course.

The examinee may be asked to demonstrate from three to five clinical skills such as – washing hands, respecting the patient’s privacy, repositioning the patient, grooming the patient, taking the patient’s temperature measurement, holding the bedpan, or changing the linen of the patient’s bedding.

Each and every step of the CNA skills test is carefully observed and evaluated by the examiner. Even a small lapse such as not washing hands or not knocking on the door before entering a patient’s room may land you in trouble. Therefore, the examinee has to take extra care performing the various exercises. Most importantly, the examinee should be calm and composed because this is what the examiners would like to know – whether or not you are able to perform perfectly well even under stressful real life conditions. So, if you remain calm and composed, and carry out the clinical part of the exam perfectly well, you can be assured of your success.

The CNA exam is supervised by a state examiner. He observes and carefully evaluates every examinee’s performance. He may also give mock cases to the examinee and ask him to assume that the model is a victim of cardiac arrest, who also has his left side of the body paralysis. He might then ask you to get the model out of his bed, on to a wheel chair. So, at that time, the examiner would be watching carefully to note from which side the examinee lifts the model and how he transfers him on to the wheelchair. You need to follow the correct procedures learned during your training and pay small attention to details like locking the wheels of the wheel chair before transferring the model on it.

You may have a great career ahead as a certified nursing assistant, but for that, you would need to pass the CNA skills test and obtain state certification. Remember to stay calm, and pay attention to minute details and you are sure to pass the exam with flying colors!

cna training
