Mike Selvon asked:

With the healthcare industry growing every year and with the long term projections expected to continue growing steadily, you can’t go wrong choosing a career as a certified nursing assistant. However, there are a certain number of courses and certifications that have to be met in order to become a CNA. Many CNA’s work in the long term and residential nursing care facilities and many people use a CNA certification as a springboard to get into more specialized medical fields.

Do you happen to know anyone who has some sort of disability and needs private nursing care on a regular basis? If so, the person that they probably have coming into their home to assist them is a certified nursing assistant. In addition to being there to help them out with their daily activities and hygiene requirements, this aid will also help them with the dispensing of medications and even emotional support if necessary.

If you think about it, due to the kind of care that the assistant can provide, it is only natural that quite a bond can be formed between patient and nurse. Many people think highly enough of their CNA, that they will look to them instead of their own family members, in order to gain help in making various decisions.

You don’t have to be fresh out of high school to become one. It’s not unusual for individuals in their middle-age years to decide they’d like to pursue a career path that allows them to not only help people, but to also have a good, steady income.

There are several ways to take classes to become a CNA. There are accredited programs at medical assistant schools in nearly every city and state. If you live in a rural area and have access to the internet, then certain schooling programs are also available online for the written portions, but you will still need to apply to the nearest medical center possible to get your “hands on” skills training.

As long as there are people, they are going to require care on one level or another and that is what makes working as a certified nursing assistant such a smart choice. Once you become CNA certified, you will have the choice of participating in home care assignments assisting a visiting RN, or you may choose to work in elder care or even with challenged children. No matter which path your choose, working in these jobs is a career choice most people agree is truly fulfilling.

cna jobs

Mike Selvon asked:

There are obviously many different kinds of positions as a nurse that you can encounter during your career, however one of your first certified nursing assistant jobs may end up being the most memorable. Often looked at as an important rung in the ladder to a great career in the health care field, the job that gets you started can literally lay the ground work for the rest of your entire, exciting career.

To begin with, taking the step to join in this field is enough to celebrate. This is quite an exciting field to enter as well as a very exciting time for the world of health care and nursing in general. Having a number of assistant jobs under your belt is a great way to show your potential employers, in the future, that you took the time to prepare yourself for a strong career in the medical field.

No matter what area you are striving for within the medical and field of nurses, various certified nursing assistant jobs can give you a variety of valuable skills that you can take along with you, onward into future jobs and programs. While already knowing basic care for nurses and having experience interacting with other nurses and physicians, you have a strong knowledge of the inner workings of various facilities, whether they are hospitals, a nursing care facility or even homes that you visit for hospice care.

The world of nursing is never going to go away. There will always be a need for its knowledge, for assisted living and rehabilitation. The best thing you can do is give yourself the opportunity to get started with a program or certified course in your area.

Then, you can work your way up from there to landing your first certified assistant job. Some nurses at this particular point will even look into a variety of per diem or part time positions in order to get the most experience possible in all different aspects of the field.

While you are involved with one of your first certified nursing assistant jobs, you will find that you will learn valuable skills including administration of medications, communication with the families of your patients, forming a bond with your patients to help better evaluate their situation and of course, liaison between the doctors and the patients and their relatives. The kinds of things that you can learn during your hands-on-experience with a certified assistant job, is truly priceless and can only lead you to bigger and better things in the future.

certified nursing assistant

Ems Aleks asked:

Once you have become certified as a certified nursing assistant, you can then work within any medical facility that has a registered nurse who needs an assistant. You may even get a job in a nursing home or one of the senior / assisted living facilities.

The training that is associated with this certification can easily be sourced as there are many institutions that offer the classes and you may even find classes that are conducted online. There are also free courses that are offered, but that depends on a lot of things and generally comes with a few conditions. Many persons have received their certified nursing assistant training for free because the medical facility that they already work for has decided to pay for the course and others have received training for free, but will have to extend their services to one particular medical facility. Whatever the reason that these courses may be offered without a cost, you can still get it done as long as you have read and understood the terms and conditions that comes with the free classes and as long as you are willing to abide by the guidelines.

Some institutions will not pay for the course upfront but will actually reimburse the candidate after the certification has been achieved. Either way, when you are looking for an institution to get your training done, ensure that the institution is an accredited one in order for your certification to be valid. There are always state organisations that you can check with to validate the claims made by an institution in regards to whether or not they are registered and accredited, then choose the most convenient way for you to study and attend classes and make the necessary steps to get certified.

The field of nurse’s aids is one that will never diminish because there are more nurses being needed everyday and those nurses will always need an assistant or two and you have to be certified to be hired by a reputable medical facility. Often times the nurses assistant are needed more often than the nurses to take care of the everyday needs of the patients by keeping tabs on their blood pressure, grooming them, performing hygiene maintenance, which may include bathing, washing and combing of hair etc. The nurse aid is also often times the person who ensures that the patient takes the prescribed medication on time and in the correct dosages.

Because of these responsibilities that a nursing assistant may have, they are often times offered a good salary and many times they are requested to do over time that allows them to earn some extra pay. While the turnover rate may be high, the fact is there is almost always an opening, so you will always have a job.

certified nurse assistant

Louis Zhang asked:

The certified nursing assistant CNA is a member of the heath care team that goes along with any medical care facility. Most of these facilities are for older patients but can include nursing home, clinics, hospitals, extended care facilities, and of course even the office of a physician.

There are many opportunities for paid training for certified nursing assistants. Many facilities will offer tuition reimbursement if staff members go out and earn their Certified Nursing Assistant credentials. It is an opportunity to truly become a professional member of the health care team and become registered with a national organization that certifies nursing assistants.

The job market for certified nursing assistants remains strong and will continue to remain strong with our growing elderly population. The CNA is often required to manage the daily care of the client at a medical facility.

They are responsible for a wide range of tasks to take care of the patient. They often receive good benefits and a good working salary with plenty of overtime work that is available to them. Because of the nature of the work there is a fairly high turnover rate and that is another reason why there are many employment opportunities that become available at any time and in every city and location.

The formal education for the certified nursing assistant does not take long. Most of the time you can take classes inside a year or even six months and be ready to sit for the state exams that are offered.

You also must complete an internship by working directly in the field at a local health facility under the supervision of an instructor. Because of the demand for these people you can often find paid training for certified nursing assistant programs at your local community colleges. Most of the time these classes are small and you will receive very personal attention as you work your way through the program. The rewards will be great and the satisfaction will be your motivation.

Now is the time to look into taking classes in a paid CNA training program that will lead you to a new job and a new and satisfying career. You can be a member of the very important health care team in a local facility near your neighborhood.

Begin to earn real money and enjoy the benefits of helping others. Programs are always forming and you can make an application for the next class that starts. Take advantage of this educational opportunity.

If you have always wanted to work in the health care field now is the time to investigate the opportunities with becoming a certified nursing assistant. What is even better is the chance that you may be able to find paid training for certified nursing assistant programs in your local area. It is the right time to grow professionally and join the thousands who are employed in the health care industry.
Melanie Ullman asked:

The duties a Certified Nursing Assistant is expected to perform will depend largely on where you are working. For instance, a CNA’s duties at a hospital will be different than at a nursing home, or at a patient’s home.

That said, the primary duty of a certified nursing assistant is always care of your patient. This can include daily care of a patient, and assistance as appropriate, such as help with eating, getting dressed, and movement.

As a CNA your duties may also include taking and logging patient information: vital signs (BP or blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature), assessing your patients pain level, and their weight.

As a Nursing Assistant, it will also be your duty to report on your patient. Depending on where your job is, that may mean reporting to a head nurse or supervisor. A CNA is expected to be the “eyes and ears” for the attending nurse.

To function well and be the best possible Assistant, you are expected to be patient, caring, responsive, and above all responsible and professional. Your role may be varied, but the well-being of the patient or patients that you care for is always “Job Number 1″. A CNA can’t afford to be distracted or disinterested.

Along with the a Certified Nursing Assistant’s duties comes the satisfaction of helping others, and of knowing that you are a crucial member of the overall health care environment.
Mike Selvon asked:

One of the fastest growing careers in the country today is certified nursing assistant, or CNA. Quite rewarding both financially and emotionally, this is the kind of career that you can enjoy for many years. With plenty of room for advancement if you would like it. If you think that some of the aspects of this career may be just what you are looking for, you may want to see about getting into the field of certified nurse assistant to better your life, as well as the life of others.

As a certified nursing assistant, you will meet many challenges in your day-to-day work. Many of the assistants work in a residential nursing care facility and since they work closely with their patients giving day to day care, the CNA is often the first to recognize a change in the patient’s behavior which may indicate that an underlying condition needs to be examined.

When it comes to a situation where there is a patient who is in a long term nursing care facility, an assistant can be vital to this person’s care. By spending so much time with their patients in a nursing care facility, they are generally the first people to notice any changes in health or behavior.

This can be imperative when it comes to letting the doctors and other nurses know if there is anything else that needs to be addressed. The same idea goes if there are any changes in behavior, due to a switch in administered medications and so on.

However, there is actually more than one option when it comes to the field of CNA certified nursing assistant. Once you are accredited in this field, you can then begin to take on other jobs, like private nursing care, where home visits are required. These home visits can be for people who need temporary help due to a surgical procedure or an unfortunate accident or even for those elderly individuals who can use an extra pair of hands to help them with some of their daily activities.

Working as a CNA doesn’t mean that you have to limit yourself to working in a residential nursing care facility. There are numerous opportunities for both travel and expansion. Your job choices can range from working in a hospital environment, to working with a physician. No matter which direction you take, you’re sure to find your career path fulfilling.

People from all walks of life are finding good careers in the world of certified nursing. There are very few jobs that will allow an individual to travel, wear many different hats and help people feel better during times of illness. If you want a career that will meet this criteria, get certified to be a CNA.

cna training

Mark Beith asked:

Commonly called a CNA which stands for Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Nurse Assistant, is exactly what it sounds like; an individual who assists Nurses. That is not all they do of course. CNA’s are typically under the authority of either a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, and are very crucial in the ongoing care for patients. A nurse assistant can be found involved in a number of tasks including answering patient calls, measuring their food and liquid intake, checking their vitals, provide help with patient motor functions, preparing patients for surgery and transporting them to treatment units. To become a certified nursing assistant, you must take a nurses aide training course and pass your states certification test.

The demand for CNA’s right now is very high, as more and more people need assistance in their daily lives. Whats great about this career is that it is in one of the only sectors that is actually increasing their hiring during the downed economy. That means you’ll have great job security in an exciting career that has many possibilities of location. At anytime there are typically over two-thousand positions that are not filled, that means opportunity for you. Becoming a registered nurse is a lot of work and a sizable financial decision, so instead of taking that leap blindly it is good practice to first becoming a CNA and see if a nursing career is something that you would want to do. This will give you the best insights into the life of a nurse because you are working side by side with them.

In your CNA job search you’ll want to follow all the standard practices of looking for a job. Make sure your resume is update and professional looking, go over interview questions with a friend, secure at least three references and possibly letters of recommendation of these references. If you’ve never had a job as a certified nursing assistant yet, look for jobs at nursing homes as you can typically get a job there even before you have finished your certification. If your dream CNA job is at a hospital then make sure you go into the hospital and turn in a resume even if they are not actively advertising a position. Make sure you use the Internet to your advantage and daily run a search for CNA jobs in your area.

cna jobs

Melanie Ullman asked:

Free CNA training for those looking to become Certified Nursing Assistants can often be found through employers, such as hospitals, through local vocational training organizations, and through online training. It should be noted that becoming a Certified Nurse requires taking and passing a state exam, which may not be covered by online CNA training. CNA training “classes” are different than training “courses”.

The classes usually include hands-on clinical learning and practice, while courses are usually in the form of printed or online courseware. Depending on where you live, hospitals or nursing homes may hold free CNA training in exchange for you working for them. The best way to check is to get your local phone book and call them up. Look up long term care centers and call them up and ask.

Some hospitals have contracts with local community colleges and offer their courses free to the student. There are also CNA/HHA Scholarship Programs, which sponsor free CNA and HHA training for qualified individuals who would like to become Certified Nurse Assistants and/or Home Health Aides (HHAs) and work in long term care. These programs often cover the full cost of training, including the CNA state certification exam. They are usually administered and funded by the states Department of Public Health.

The Armed Services also offer various training programs. Through the Air Force Aid Society Spouse Employment Program, some facilities were recently approved to offer the Certified Nursing Assistant Program in partnership with Spectrum Medical Services. Through this program, the Air Force Aid Society will pay for 10 spouses of active- duty military to become certified nurse assistants. If you are a spouse of an active-duty military member and are interested in becoming a CNA, call the Airman and Family Readiness Center at the AFB.

Going beyond free CNA training, if you’re already a Certified Nursing Assistant and have been working in the same facility for some time, particularly if your employer has paid for your CNA classes, they may also be willing to send you back to school to get your RN certification.

certified nursing assistant

Melanie Ullman asked:

Many people automatically think of a position in a nursing home when they think about Certified Nursing Assistant jobs as it is very likely that is where the biggest demands of the industry lay. However that is not the only place where you can enjoy your career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Obviously nursing is not just about giving a shot or dispensing medication it is about being able to listen to the patients and since that is the basis of the CNA training they are important to the effective treatment of patients when aiding the other healthcare professionals. Certified Nursing Assistant Jobs are very important in places such as nursing homes as often time’s they are the ones that spend the most time with the patients so they will likely be the first ones to notice that something is just off with one of their patients. Perhaps a subtle change in a patient’s attitude is a sign of a serious condition or perhaps a change in their regular medication routine is not producing the desire results. This type of training is one thing that makes Certified Nursing Assistant jobs so much in demand.

Often times there are openings for Certified Nursing Assistant jobs in the area of home visitation. The CNA’s are not allowed to hand out the medication or the jobs that would normally be performed by a nurse, but they can use their training to help those with physical disabilities and may have difficulties performing daily tasks. They may be responsible for helping the person bathe or any other number of chores, something that is of immense help to the person that is receiving the care, perhaps it keeps them from having to be hospitalized or depend upon moving in with relatives.

Many times there are Certified Nursing Assistant Jobs that are available at schools or daycare locations where they can assist children with a number of health related issues before they become a more serious problem. For instance, they may spot a particular infection such as ringworm, or perhaps lice, and get it handled before it gets out of control.

There may also be Certified Nursing Assistant jobs available in rehabilitation groups or some type of similar program. The licensed professionals will, of course, do all of the actually therapy work but the Certified Nursing Assistant will often have much more time to spend with the patients, helping to develop relationships, help tend to their needs, relay important information to the therapists and really become a very important part of the patient’s recovery process.

cna jobs

David Patullo asked:

A certified nursing assistant job will comprise of basic services of nursing. They will work under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. As a certified nursing assistant one has to work for 8 hours a day with an hour’s break. The break can be split the way the nurse is comfortable. Say for instance the nurse can take 15 minutes break for four times or one hour break at a stretch. As the certified nurse assistant does not possess the qualification of a registered nurse the powers and duties are limited. A certified nursing assistant has a good idea about the health care profession. So to have a basic idea if the medical field will suit you before taking up the lengthy degree for becoming a doctor you can try the CNA course and be a certified nursing assistant for some time and see if the profession suits you.

The responsibilities and duties of a certified nurse assistant are as follows. They have to keep observing the patients regularly, if they feel the patient has any issues they have to immediately report to the nurse under whose supervision they work, they are responsible for the personal hygiene of the patient like they have to give the patient a bath, cut their nails, help them use the restroom, shave etc., they have to see to that the catheter bag is emptied every now and then. They have to check regularly the blood pressure, temperature and pulse of the patient. They have to help the patient to take their food and also see to that they are having their food properly. Medicines should be given to the patients as prescribed by the doctor. Medicines have to be given on time. They have to make the bed for the patient and see to that their surrounding is neat and clean. It is their duty to see to that the patient is on time for the therapy. More care should be taken for patients who are bed ridden as they might develop bed sores

No prior experience is required to be a certified nursing assistant. One has to just complete the basic program to be a certified nursing assistant and they are sure to get a job immediately. There are lots of institutions that provide the course. There are also some institutes that give free training but will have some conditions attached to it. The job of a certified nursing assistant can pay anywhere between 9$ to 12$ per hour. The pay however depends on the experience and place of employment. One has to clear the competency test after attending the classes to be a certified nursing assistant.

As a certified nursing assistant one can get jobs in hospitals, private homes, mental health facilities etc. The jobs at private homes are on the increase as people find it comfortable to get treated in house. The job opportunities for a certified nurse assistant are expected to increase by 20% in another three years.

cna jobs
