I am a certified nursing assistant and I was thinking of creating a website of my own to advertise non-medical homehealth services in my community. I was wondering what are the possibilities of doing this? and what things do I need to be aware of before I decide to do this? I’m just trying to find a way to make some income while I go to nursing school and I also think it would allow me some scheduling flexibility.

I’m not sure about the US but in Canada we can have this. A CNA can have 1 client. An LPN can have up to 3, and an RN up to 5. Keep in mind there are different classifications of clients- up here a level 1 would be someone who is almost independent but just needs occasional help every now and then. A level 5 is completely dependent on another person for everything and most likely wheelchair bound, with tube feeds, etc. the higher the level the higher the pay, but I don’t think CNA’s can take anything higher then a level 1-2 or maybe 3, at least not here.
You have to have your home accredited, have a license and insurance. For example, you can’t have a huge staircase or etc at home that the client can’t maneuver.
FYI, this is not a good idea for while in nursing school. You will be required to do overnight shifts, etc so unless you hire some staff to come in you’re either losing money or breaking even. Keep in mind the client doesn’t conform to your schedule- you conform to theirs, and that includes things like day programs, dr’s appointments etc.
