The difference is that one has a certificate and the other one does not.

Certified NAs can sometimes pass pills. If you are just a NA you can work in people’s homes or group homes, but not nursing homes.

a CNA has to be licensed by the state and goes through medical classes to get the certification a NA is like a caregiver you might have the medical back round but you have to have that certification from the state to be certified

The certified nurse has a degree, while the nursing assistant only has an associate degree

At the website below, the terms “nursing assistant” and “certified nursing assistant” are used interchangeably. I think the real step up from CNA would be “nurse”.
